COVID-19 Safety Policies

COVID-19 Policies

While the 2021 New Mexico Prickly Pear Festival is taking place outdoors in downtown Albuquerque lessening the risk of COVID-19 transmission according to current CDC guidelines for outdoor events, with the more contagious Delta variant we want to make sure to further lower any risk to attendees, vendors, and festival staff. As always if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 including: fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, chills, or loss of smell or taste, please stay home (ticket holders who stay home because of illness may receive a refund if requested from the festival)

1. Proof of Vaccination Encouraged and Vaccine Raffle

So far over 165 million Americans are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and more than 65% of New Mexicans eligble are also fully vaccinated. The vaccines are safe and effective with less than 1% of vaccinated people experiencing breakthrough cases of COVID-19 and 0.004% of vaccinated individuals being hospitalized as the result of breakthrough cases according to the most recent data

We encourage everyone to get the COVID-19 vaccine prior to attending the festival for the safety of all festival goers and everyone involved. While we will not be requiring proof of vaccination, we will be asking for attendee's vaccination status and asking those that don't wish to share their status to wear a mask (which will be freely available at the entrance booth).

To encourage everyone to get vaccinated and keep the festival safe, every attendee that shows proof of vaccination will receive a raffle ticket to win some great prizes donated by our festival vendors including gift bags, gift certificates, and more (raffle tickets will also be available for purchase).

All festival vendors, volunteers, and staff will be asked for proof of vaccination or proof of recent negative COVID test in order to vend and staff the festival.

2. Mask Policy

While the CDC does not currently recommend that fully vaccinated individuals need to wear a mask in outdoor settings, we will ask that anyone who does not wish to share their vaccination status to wear a mask and encourage masking to people's comfort level, including for those with compromised immune systems or other underlying health conditions.

3. Capacity

While the outdoor capacity of our festival space should accommodate for all festival goers, festival security may limit capacity based on attendees within the festival space at a given time and may ask festival goers not to crowd areas. All festival booths and seating will be spaced to encourage some level of social distancing
